IMMERSIVE COMMUNITY ENERGY PROGRAMME

By empowering local communities to actively participate and benefit from renewable energy, we aim to address social and economic disparities while building a sustainable and inclusive energy landscape.

The 12-week programme is primarily structured around the Community Energy How-To Guide, written by Ara Ake and published in 2023. This guide was designed to equip community-based organisations with the essential knowledge needed to successfully develop and implement energy projects.

Covering ten key chapters, the guide provides insights into critical areas such as effective governance and management, the fundamentals of the energy sector—including grid connections, retailing options, and electricity generation—and strategies for financing community energy initiatives.

Each session follows a consistent structure, beginning with a 15-30 minute presentation from an expert. This is followed by breakout discussions—allowing participants to explore the topic in greater depth. An open Q&A session with the expert then provides further opportunities for clarification and engagement.

To support learning, each community group receives a manual containing useful templates and discussion prompts. As the Activator progresses, more time can be allocated at the end of each session for groups to share their experiences and insights. This peer-to-peer exchange is a valued and integral part of the programme.
